UN General Assembly's 79th session continues in New York

NEW YORK, Sept 25 — The work of the 79th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, which focuses heavily on the ongoing Israeli aggression on the war-torn Gaza Strip, continued today at the UN headquarters in New York, the United States.

The session brought together world leaders and their representatives, including President Mahmoud Abbas, reported the Palestine News and Info Agency.

He is scheduled to deliver the State of Palestine speech to the General Assembly on Thursday (September 26).

The 79th session opened on Tuesday (September 25) and will continue through Saturday (September 28), concluding on Monday (September 30), with the participation of heads of state and governments of Member States of the United Nations.

The session, entitled: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations,” pursuant to resolution 58/126, addresses a number of issues, most notably, international peace and security, sustainable development, and technology.

The current session of the General Assembly marked a historic moment after the State of Palestine gained an official seat among the Member States of the General Assembly for the first time during the inaugural session, in implementation of a resolution passed in May.
