SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 — Applications for Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) and Skim Mesra Insan Istimewa (SMIS) are open all year at all community service centres in the state.
Kajang assemblyman David Cheong said those who fulfil the criteria for these schemes are invited to apply, and if eligible, they will receive shopping vouchers valued at RM150 and a death benefit of RM500.
He said that to date, 10,449 recipients in Kajang have received aid under both schemes.
“Applications are open all year for those eligible. It is hoped the programme can be continued to help senior citizens and disabled folk,” he said.

Meanwhile, Seri Serdang assemblyman Abbas Azmi said there are 5,733 SMUE and SMIS recipients in his constituency.
“Those who have registered for these schemes and have been approved in the system can claim vouchers for this year as the vouchers have to be claimed once a year.
“Various methods have been employed to ensure those eligible are aware of these benefits, including by broadcasting on social media, holding community programmes, and informing local community leaders,” he said.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze said 15,636 SMUE and SMIS recipients have been recorded in her constituency so far.
“Interested applicants must ensure they are voters registered in Selangor and aged above 60 for the SMUE, or hold Person With Disability cards for the SMIS.
“We distribute notices via various platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok periodically to ensure residents obtain information on application methods, application periods, application days at our office, and more,” she said.
In Selangor’s Budget 2024, RM16.45 million was allocated for the Jom Shopping programme: a benefit disbursed on recipients’ birthdays. It is part of the SMUE initiative, with every recipient receiving RM150 to buy essential goods.
