SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — Behind his challenge for the opposition to table a no-confidence motion against him, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must focus on economic recovery and the people’s social welfare.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) deputy communications director Danish Hairudin said Anwar must consider political threats that can affect stability.
“The challenge to the opposition is a strategic move that may be needed to bring attention to bigger responsibilities.
“This move will abort the opposition’s intentions to change the government via back-door means,” he said in a statement.
Danish added that the no-confidence motion is an important element of the democratic process and strengthens Anwar’s position as Prime Minister.
“When the opposition urged a challenge for his position, this was not just about defending his role, but to ensure government stability.
“A leader’s responsibility is to preserve the trust of the people and ensure the administration’s agenda progresses without disruptions,” he said.
Yesterday, Bersatu Youth nominee chief Muhammad Hilman Idham said Anwar should not be concerned about the security of his position if he has majority support.
Hilman said the Prime Minister must focus on administrative issues instead of challenging Perikatan Nasional to submit a no-confidence motion.
On Friday, during the Keadilan Suara Rakyat Suara Keramat gathering at Axiata Arena, Anwar told the opposition to file a no-confidence motion against him at the October sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.
