SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — Sungai Kajang’s breakwater in Tanjong Karang, near here, was eroded in the high-tide phenomenon here yesterday morning.
Kuala Selangor Disaster Management Committee (floods) chairman Mohd Raiz Radzuan said, in the 7.15am incident, seawater crashed into the 1.5km breakwater, whose construction began in June, and caused it to collapse.
“The situation is under control though the breakwater has collapsed due to the high-tide phenomenon. The Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) is fixing the barrier,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He said however that residents will not be evacuated.
Raiz added that the construction of the barrier, undertaken by Selangor JPS, costs RM4.9 million and was set to be completed in 2026.
