Alif Teega charged with misappropriating over RM60,000 in donations

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — Social media influencer Mohd Hazalif Mohd Hazani, also known as Alif Teega, was charged in the Sessions Court today on two counts of misappropriating over RM60,000 raised for two infaq (charity) programmes in April and June this year.

The 30-year-old pleaded not guilty to both charges read before Judge Azura Alwi.

For the first charge, he is accused of dishonestly misappropriating RM36,047.35 in donations intended for infaq iftar in Mecca, Syria, and Palestine at a bank on Jalan Kerinci, Gerbang Kerinci Lestari, on April 26.

On the second charge, Hazalif is accused of dishonestly misappropriating RM27,558.13 intended for the Jom! Sertai Infaq Daging Qurban programme at the same bank on June 15.

Both charges were brought under Section 403 of the Penal Code (Act 574), which carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment, caning, and a fine, upon conviction.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh proposed bail between RM50,000 and RM100,000 for both charges, with additional conditions that he surrender his passport and report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya once a month.

The accused's lawyer Mohd Sharullah Khan requested a lower bail, citing that his client supports his family and that all his assets have been frozen by the MACC.

The court granted bail at RM50,000 with one surety for all charges, agreed to the prosecution’s conditions, and set October 21 for case mention.
