KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has been asked by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to prepare a strategic plan and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure improvement of Harimau Malaya squads.
In a statement, the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) said this request was made by Anwar during a meeting with FAM leaders today.
“This request was made following the government’s commitment to allocate RM15 million to support efforts to strengthen the national team, including the national under-23 squad. The allocation will be monitored periodically by the Finance Ministry and KBS.
“The Prime Minister also emphasised the government’s commitment to strengthening the national sports ecosystem, and the allocation for Harimau Malaya will not reduce the funding provided to other sports,” according to the statement.
Meanwhile, KBS announced it will seek assistance from the Asian Football Confederation to conduct a review of the effectiveness of the National Football Development Programme, managed by the National Sports Council, so improvements can be made.
