KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — National men's singles player Ng Tze Yong has started to undergo light training with the national squad camp in the past two weeks, according to Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) coaching director Rexy Mainaky.
However, the 24-year-old still needs to undergo rehabilitation for his two back surgeries in February and April.
"He is already training (and) but not fully (all out). If he comes here (Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), it maybe only for one hour maximum.
"Tze Yong has no problem moving but (still) needs rehab to develop his strength back (as before)," he told Bernama at BAM in Bukit Kiara today.
The coach said the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist is likely to be sent to participate in tournaments on the Badminton World Federation World Tour calendar starting next year.
Ng was previously confirmed to be suffering from back pain due to an injury sustained at the 2024 Badminton Asian Team Championships in Shah Alam in February.
The injury caused him to miss making his debut at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
