SHAH ALAM, Aug 21 — Selangor athletes today marked stellar performances in the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) today, with several records broken.
At the end of the day, the medal tally has the state in fourth place with 99 medals, 27 of which are gold, 41 silver, and 31 bronze.
At 8.15pm, Selangor swimmer Low Ee Mang contributed bronze to the state tally through the women’s 50m breaststroke, with a time of 33.68s.
At 7.45pm, the women’s 4x100m freestyle team, comprising Morgan Eleven Teo Kai Cheng, Yoong Jia Jia, Lim Shun Qi and Khew Zi Xian scored another gold with a time of 3:55.84s, breaking the Sukma record previously set by Sabah in 2008.
Meanwhile, the men’s swimming quartet, comprising Loke Yew Jien, Ho Zhi Yang, Aslan Adnan and Jayden Goh Li Jie, earned silver in the 4x100m freestyle with a time of 3:27.44s.
At 5.45pm, Andrew Goh again took gold and broke the national record in the men’s 50m breaststroke, clocking 27.40s against the 28.03s mark he set in Heat 3 just this morning.
The swimming team earned another gold through Jayden Goh Li Jie in the men’s 200m butterfly, finishing in 2:03.98s. Henry Goh Li Hen took silver by clocking 2:04.38s.
Lim Shun Qi took yet another gold for Selangor in the women’s 200m individual butterfly. she clocked 2:22.02s and left silver for teammate Khor Mishya Yue, who finished in 2:22.49s.
Local swimmer Shannon Tan Yan Qing earned Selangor a silver in the women's 800m freestyle of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak this evening.
The 14-year-old clocked 9:32s during the 5.30pm event at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya, Kuching.
At 5.32pm, G. Mathan Raj earned silver in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase with a finish of 10:02.12s.
At 5.19pm, M. Laksman contributed a silver to the state in the men’s fencing epee.
Meanwhile, judo exponent Muhammad Ashraf Md Khairulddin won bronze in the below-73kg category.
At 5pm, swimmer Liew Zeng Wye contributed a bronze in the men's1,500m freestyle at the same venue.
Earlier at 4.50pm, sprinter Esther Joy Hong Li Chen earned gold for the women's 3,000m steeplechase at Sarawak Stadium in Kuching.
Elsewhere, Selangor earned a bronze in the archery mixed recurve event today.
At 1.30pm, archers Ahmad Razin Azahar and Nur Ieka Hariesya Zainal Habsahli contributed bronze in the mixed recurve event at the Archery Range in Petra Jaya, Kuching.
Meanwhile, at 9.49am, swimmer Andrew Goh beat his own national record in the men’s 50m breaststroke event at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in Kuching, clocking in 28.03s in Heat 3.
Goh also surpassed the Sukma record of 28.86s set by Melaka’s Foong Wei Tze in the 2018 edition.

At 9am, weightlifter Noor Hirzie Fariez Mustafa delivered a gold for the men's under-73kg category at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan in Betong.
Yesterday saw Selangor's gold medal tally at 19, with a total of 78 medals, behind Sarawak and the Federal Territories. Terengganu, in fourth place, has 23 gold medals compared with Selangor's 19.
Yesterday's highlights included sprinter Nur Afrina Batrisyia Mohamad Rizal, who became a double gold medallist and double record holder when she won the 200m final at the Sarawak Stadium, Kuching, in 23.89s.
After a slow start in the biennial Sukma, Selangor is gaining ground, just as state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi predicted.
Over a week into Sukma 2024, Selangor has garnered medals in a number of events, including pencak silat, wushu, silambam, lawn bowls, karate, golf, tenpin bowling, swimming, petanque, bowling, sprinting, weightlifting, and decathlon.
