Sukma 2024: Selangor wins gold, bronze in kumite

SHAH ALAM, Aug 17 — The state has won both a gold and bronze medal in the kumite event of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak today.

The gold was won by G. Srikah in the 55kg women's category at Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara in Miri, after having defeated Sabah's Adeola Fay Robert.

Meanwhile, B. Jeevesh won bronze in the 55kg men's category at Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara in Miri, going up against Kelantan's R. Sashvin.

At 2pm, the state rhythmic gymnastics team scored silver in the women's team event at the Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching today, nearly a week into the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak.

At 8.30am, the men's sepak takraw team also won silver in their match against Penang at Stadium Muhibah in Bintulu.

Thus far, the state has performed respectably by Sukma's sixth day, raking in three gold medals and five silver medals beforehand.

Wushu proponent Mandy Cebelle Chen was the first athlete to garner medals, two gold in the women’s taijiquan final event at the SSC Wushu Hall in Kuching on Thursday (August 15).

On the same day, lawn bowls athlete Adania Mohd Redzwan won silver in the women’s singles tenpin bowling event at Megalanes Emart in Batu Kawa, Kuching.

Yesterday, the Selangor women's lawn bowls team consisting of Damia Aleesya Mohd Irmantaha, Nur Dina Najwa Tarmizy Abdullah, Nur Najwa Batrisyia Mustakim, Nurul Ain Ibrahim, and Puteri Aira Azman Shah, won gold in the women’s fours event at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena in Kuching.

They were followed by compatriot Nur Najla Damia Mustakim, who secured silver in the gold medal lawn bowls women’s singles event at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena in Petra Jaya, Kuching.

Meanwhile, another wushu athlete, Batrisyia Izzati, contributed a silver medal to the state in the women's 48kg Sanda category at the Sarawak Wushu Stadium in Petra Jaya, Kuching.

Similarly, her compatriot Felicity Wong also won silver in the women's 52kg Sanda category at the same venue.

The day was rounded up with another silver contribution from Intan Nor Edryana dan Adania Mohd Redzwan in the tenpin bowling women's doubles event at Megalanes Emart in Batu Kawa, Kuching.
