SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) raided three unlicensed premises operated by foreign nationals around Wangsa Permai on Wednesday (August 14).

Its Corporate Department's Public Relations Division said the council also seized various items including alcoholic beverages and food products from foreign countries.

“Based on the investigation results, these three premises are suspected to have been operating without approval and are being managed by foreign nationals using the licences of local citizens.

“They target customers from within their own community by selling only food and grocery items from their country of origin, in addition to modifying the premises to function as specialised karaoke entertainment centres and unauthorised eateries,” it said in a statement.

As a result, MPS confiscated various equipment including alcoholic beverages, karaoke and audiovisual equipment, and closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV).

“MPS has issued seven compounds, among them under the MPS Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws 2007's By-Law 3(1); the MPS Trade, Business, and Industrial Licensing By-Laws 2007's By-Law 3(1), and the Trade Licensing By-Laws.

“The operation encountered some difficulties due to the location of the premises on the upper floors of buildings, and the fact that the premises were controlled by the owners with locked gates and equipped with CCTVs.

“Therefore, MPS calls upon residents who have information regarding premises operating without approval to cooperate in providing information, especially on those managed by foreign nationals.

The operation, which began at 8pm, was led by MPS Deputy President Adi Faizal Ahmad Tarmizi, who was assisted by 26 members and officers.
