Sukma 2024: Mandy Cebelle secures Selangor's first gold medal

SHAH ALAM, Aug 14 – Selangor has clinched its first gold medal at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 in Sarawak today, courtesy of wushu athlete Mandy Cebelle Chen in the taijijian event.

She scored the highest points, 9.603, besting 18 other competitors in the event held at the Petra Jaya Wushu Hall in Kuching.

The competition also saw host athlete Carmen Jia Min Chaw secure the silver medal with 9.530 points, followed by Federal Territory athlete Kwan Yong Xin with 9.490 points.

Chen, 21, has the opportunity to contribute another medal to the state contingent in the Wushu Taijiquan final, scheduled for tomorrow.

Wushu, a martial art originating from China, offers a total of 28 gold medals over three days of competition starting today at the Sukma 2024 event.

A total of 37 sports are being contested in this biennial event, which will run until August 24, with the opening ceremony set for Saturday (August 17) at the Sarawak Stadium in Kuching.
