KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — The construction, technology and property stocks lifted Bursa Malaysia’s key index to turn higher at mid-morning, in tandem with the mostly higher regional market indices, despite the downbeat performance on Wall Street overnight.
At 11am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) surged 20.5 points to 1,556.98 from yesterday’s 1,536.48 close, after opening 5.66 points higher at 1,542.14.
The construction, technology and property stocks contributed a combined 7.3 per cent to the index.
The broader market was also positive with gainers surpassing losers 844 versus 338, with 384 counters unchanged, 839 untraded and seven others suspended.
Turnover stood at 2.95 billion units worth RM2.05 billion.
At the time of writing, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index added 0.18 per cent to 16,728.76, South Korea’s Kospi soared 3.52 per cent to 2,527.61, Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index surged 9.40 per cent to 34,416.32, Indonesia’s IDX Composite Index increased 0.94 per cent to 7,126.16, and China’s SSE Composite Index rose 0.19 per cent to 2,866.18.
However, Singapore’s Straits Times Index was down 1.01 per cent to 3,210.79.
Back home, among other heavyweights, Maybank added 12 sen to RM10.02, Public Bank was three sen better to RM4.16, Tenaga Nasional edged up 16 sen to RM13.32, CIMB climbed 10 sen to RM7.11, and IHH Healthcare put on six sen to RM6.13.
Of the actives, Cape EMS lost 3.5 sen to 53 sen, Pegasus Heights shed half-a-sen to half-a-sen, while MY E.G gained 4.5 sen to 87 sen, Velesto Energy ticked up 1.5 sen to 21 sen, and WCT improved two sen to RM1.00.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index increased 174.1 points to 11,780.01, the FBMT 100 Index climbed 168.80 points to 11,441.16, the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 202.6 points to 11,871.47, the FBM ACE Index expanded 94.23 points to 5,049.31, and the FBM 70 Index surged 316.69 points to 16,893.59.
Sector-wise, the Construction Index perked up 6.49 points at 265.85, the Technology Index widened 1.59 points to 66.4 and the Property Index was 22.98 points higher at 1,003.12.
The Financial Services Index was 155.28 points higher at 17,702.04, the Plantation Index advanced 72.10 points to 6,960.74, the Energy Index was 16.13 points firmer at 868.84, and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up four points to 175.13.
