GUA MUSANG, July 30 — All pending development projects for Orang Asli in Kuala Betis will be expedited for the benefit of the community and the public in Nenggiri, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said this is as the Madani Government is very committed to implementing Orang Asli development projects in the area.
“This is the basis for us to build a Madani society that cares for the poor and the underprivileged.
“The ground-breaking ceremony for the village road that will connect Kuala Betis to Pos Bihai, Pos Belatim and Pos Balar is one of the government’s initiatives to mainstream Orang Asli so they don’t feel marginalised.
“The project will bring about socioeconomic impact and benefit 7,147 Orang Asli residents in Gua Musang,” he told a press conference after officiating the ground-breaking ceremony for the village road project here today.
Zahid said those pending development projects for the Orang Asli community were part of the projects lined up under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).
“The projects weren’t announced because we want to win the Nenggiri by-election. They were planned under the 11MP.
“Apart from that, Orang Asli village heads and tok batin (leaders) have come to see me and share with me their problems relating to the development projects for Orang Asli in Kuala Betis,” he said.
Zahid said the implementation of the projects would be expedited within 48 months as they had been delayed for far too long.
“The government has also approved an allocation of RM11 million for the replacement of the 135m Batu 6 Bridge in Nenggiri and 180m village road which would provide convenience to the local residents.
“Both projects will also include LED street lights, proper drainage system and road furniture. They are expected to be ready within 48 months,” he said.
Zahid expressed hope the projects would enhance connectivity among the local communities, including teachers who have to travel up to 60km to reach their schools in Pos Bihai.
“The government will continue providing best services and ensuring the well-being of the Orang Asli community and the general public in Kelantan,” he said.
