KLANG, July 30 — Nine people were sworn in as new Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) members for the 2024-2025 term yesterday.
The councillors, comprising six men and three women, were presented with their appointment certificates by Klang Mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan.
In her speech in conjunction with the oath taking ceremony, Noraini urged newly appointed councillors to provide excellent, consistent service and promptly address issues affecting residents.
“On behalf of MBDK, I would like to congratulate the new MBDK councillors on their appointment.
“I hope that, as appointed councillors, you will perform your duties and responsibilities in accordance with the state government’s requirements under Section 10(1) of the Local Government Act 1976,” she said.
Meanwhile, The Star reported that two of the nine new councillors are non-political appointees.
They are former Telekom Malaysia vice-president and adjunct professor Datuk Zuraidah Mohd Said, and former Shah Alam City Council town planner and Malaysian Institute of Planners council member Annie Syazrin Ismail.
This aligns with the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s call for 50 per cent of local councillors to be professionals, in a bid to enhance city governance and development.
His Royal Highness previously proposed for MBDK’s composition to mirror Klang’s diverse communities.
Klang was officially declared a royal city in a February 5 ceremony at Wyndham Acmar, although its upgrade took effect on November 23, 2023.
