SHAH ALAM, July 28 — More than 80,000 visitors have thronged the Selangor Children’s Book Fair at the PKNS Complex here.

The five-day event, held by the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS), which kicked off July 24 and ends tomorrow, offers generous discounts on book sales and various activities for the whole family such as colouring, drawing, and performances.

PPAS corporate unit division head Zafrullah Aris said the reception of this year’s iteration of the event has been encouraging as there are more visitors this year than last year.

“This is our second time holding this event, and praise be to God, reception has been very encouraging.

“There are parents who came early, before the fair started at 10am, with their children. Many joined the lucky draw, for which they only have to purchase an item worth RM30,” he said when met by Media Selangor.

Zafrullah said this year’s event is unique as it aims to uplift comic writers and provide a platform for children to express their talent in illustration.

“Every day during the fair, an illustration clinic is held with a comic writer, such as Imuda, for children to delve into the art of drawing,” he said.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said it is important for all quarters to encourage reading habits among youth and children to create a learned generation.

Najwan said reading can contribute to the development of a balanced soul capable of critical thinking and pursuing impactful actions.
