CYBERJAYA, July 21 — Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil today urged the Madani Community to report sudden price hikes via the Price Catcher app to assist the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) in addressing the issue.
He said that on the app, consumers can compare prices and inform district information officers of sudden cost hikes.
“Inform us about the products available in your area and any difficulties so we can collaborate with KPDN to resolve the issue of rising prices.
“This is among the functions and duties of us as a Madani Community,” he said to nearly 2,000 Madani Community members at the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2024 campaign here today.
The Madani Community is made up of volunteers governed by the Information Department.
The Price Catcher app, developed by KPDN, shows prices of 480 items at monitored markets and grocers.
There are six categories of monitored goods — fresh goods, dry goods, packaged items, milk and baby products, hygiene products, and beverages.
Fahmi said he hopes the Madani Community can play a more serious role in monitoring prices, especially after the public sector wage hike in December.
The Madani Community was established in June last year to enhance the effectiveness of government communication.
The National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2024 launch, which features a carnival concept, ends at 4.30pm today, with various programmes in store to foster patriotism among the people for National Day and Malaysia Day 2024.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officiate the launch at 3pm.
