SHAH ALAM, July 19 — State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Shaari urges women entrepreneurs in Selangor to develop digital technology skills to enhance their business marketability.

The empowerment of women via digital culture and innovation is also encompassed in the recently launched Selangor Women's Policy 2024-2026, to boost their socioeconomic status and autonomy.

"Being a woman entrepreneur is very challenging, which is why we need digitisation and innovation to ensure our efforts have a significant impact.

"Mastering digital technology is crucial for the country to overcome productivity limitations, and the state government is committed to empowering digital entrepreneurs to achieve our goal of becoming a smart state by 2025," she said.

Anfaal was speaking at the launch of the Selangor Young Women Entrepreneur (Usahawanita) Icon’s Digital Media Incentive Programme Awards today.

She also presented the 2024 Usahawanita Icon's Award to BNG Homeware Hub founder Nooraihan Che Li, who took home a RM4,000 cash prize and a trophy.

In a press conference later, the councillor said the state government is committed to continuing the Usahawanita programme to empower women entrepreneurs, including business digitisation, to increase their potential.

"This is part of the state government's initiative to achieve the objective of the Selangor Women's Policy, which is to improve women’s socioeconomic level," Anfaal said.

The Usahawanita Digital Media Incentive Programme is an initiative under the Women and Family Empowerment, Welfare and Care Economy Committee, through Wanita Berdaya Selangor.

The six-month programme includes four phases, including basic, advanced and practical training, as well as a competition involving 302 entries.

A total of 112 entrepreneurs participated in the programme, which included advanced training in various aspects such as content creation, social media marketing, graphic design, content visuals, and e-commerce.
