PM says Malaysia-Iran cooperation free of foreign influence

KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Malaysia-Iran cooperation will be free of foreign interference, focusing solely on the mutual benefit and prosperity of both nations.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said he conveyed this message during a phone conversation with Iran president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian yesterday.

“Our discussion also covered the ongoing commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral relations, investment, and trade, as well as explore further cooperation in various promising areas,” he said.

Anwar extended congratulations to Pezeshkian, who is set to be inaugurated on July 30, expressing optimism for Iran’s continued progress under his leadership.

He also offered condolences over the recent death of former Iran president Ebrahim Raisi due to a helicopter crash on May 19.

“I commended Iran’s unwavering support for justice for Palestinians and its opposition to the injustices and genocide committed by Israel’s Zionist regime,” he said.

Towards the end of their conversation, Anwar invited Pezeshkian to visit Malaysia at his earliest convenience, while Pezeshkian reciprocated by inviting him to Iran to further strengthen friendly bilateral relations.

Pezeshkian, 69, formerly a health minister, was elected the ninth president of Iran in the country’s July 5 polls.
