KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 — The Communications Ministry will launch an online safety roadshow to enhance awareness about internet dangers.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the programme will highlight issues such as cyberbullying, scams and cybersecurity, while suggesting ways to protect personal data and the benefits of online platforms.
“We see the need to start (the campaign) in schools so children are aware of and understand the dangers and capabilities of social media. For children under 13, we have prohibited them from opening social media accounts, yet unfortunately, many children are unaware,” he told reporters after distributing free helmets to 150 students at SK Bangsar here today.
He said the roadshow was designed to encourage safe internet browsing, particularly for children and families.
He said the ministry will meet with TikTok representatives to discuss anti-cyberbullying strategies.
On the death of a TikTok influencer who allegedly committed suicide after being cyberbullied, Fahmi said the probe has been handed to police.
The 29-year-old influencer was found dead at her home on Friday morning.
