KANGAR, July 9 — The Education Ministry (MOE) is still studying a proposal to provide a cost of living stipend for students and an allowance for senior assistants in Form Six as part of efforts to rebrand Form Six education in the country.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said these details must be finalised before the proposal is brought to Budget 2025 talks and the Finance Ministry.
“Among the initiatives we want to focus on is allowances, the role played by the administration at Form Six colleges, and to see how the education opportunity for Form Six students can be expanded and improved in quality” she said.
Fadhlina said this to reporters after attending the 2024 National Daurah Hadis 40 Imam Nawawi, which was also attended by Perlis Mufti Prof Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin here today. The Daurah Hadis 40 Imam Nawawi event will be held for three days, from today.
Today, media reports said the MOE is considering providing a cost of living stipend for Form Six students to draw more students to the programme.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh reportedly said the MOE is mulling an allowance for senior Form Six assistants and a higher per capita grant for Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia subjects.
Fadhlina said the MOE is confident Form Six students have high potential.
She said the MOE considers all student development aspects, including mental health, with the MOE implementing important initiatives to this end.
“This includes strengthening school counsellors, among others, by increasing their numbers in schools and improving their expertise,” she said.
