1.3 mln households expected to be involved in Agriculture Census 2024

ARAU, July 7 — Approximately 1.3 million households nationwide are expected to participate in the 2024 Agriculture Census, which begins today and ends in October, with over 5,000 enumerators mobilised for this purpose.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin, who is also the Agriculture Census 2024 commissioner, said the department would obtain detailed information, including agricultural profiles covering demographics and land use, to collect data for policy implementation.

"This census involves going door-to-door, which will enable improvements. For instance, our farmers are mostly elderly, but we do not have their profiles, so this will provide effective information.

"Agriculture is essential, so we need information to advance the sector across the country," he told the press at the Perlis-level 2024 Agriculture Census operation today.

Uzir said the department might also conduct a census involving urban residents, given that some individuals own land in rural areas but reside in cities.

He added that more than 20,000 companies involved in agriculture nationwide would also be included in the census.

"We expect the data findings from the 2024 Agriculture Census to be released in the early first quarter of next year," Uzir said.
