Selangor local councils score near 90 pct in public satisfaction

SHAH ALAM, 4 July — Public satisfaction for the state’s local council services stayed high at 89.8 per cent as of last year, the State Legislative Assembly heard today.

Speaking at the tabling of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) mid-term review, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this figure has surpassed the state’s initial target of 85 per cent by 2025.

Despite this achievement, the Menteri Besar challenged local councils to continue raising service standards.

“The high level of public satisfaction must be maintained as this shows our commitment to providing good service to the public.

“However, such performance does not mean local councils can be complacent and assume their job is done. We have to take the approach that there is always improvement to be done to raise the level and quality of service,” he said today.

To ensure a high standard of service, Amirudin said the state has set a new star rating system goal of 95 per cent for all 12 local councils by 2025.

This replaces its previous target of having 10 of its local councils achieve this target and be classified among the best at the national level.

Amirudin also pointed to the direct impact local councils have had on people’s lives, including responsibility for public infrastructure such as roads, recreational areas, public halls and community centres, waste collection, and drainage in commercial and residential areas.

“Only with constant improvements will we be able to meet the needs of Selangor residents, who often demand the quality of service in the state to be of world-class and capable of competing with other advanced nations,” he added.

These efforts, according to Amirudin, are part of the RS-1’s strategic theme of providing good and effective governance

Meanwhile, Amirudin said out of the 52 projects, programmes and initiatives under this strategic theme, 14 have been completed, while the remaining 38 are in various stages of implementation.
