Selangor Youth Council supports Selangor FC, encourages merchandise purchasing

SHAH ALAM, June 26 — The Selangor Youth Council (MBS) has called for all state residents to support Selangor FC by purchasing merchandise, original jerseys, and match tickets as a show of solidarity.

This comes after the Malaysian Football League (MFL) imposed a RM100,000 fine on the club yesterday after it decided to forego the Charity Shield Cup match against Johor Darul Ta'zim on May 10.

MFL also deducted three points from Selangor FC in the Malaysia Super League, ordered them to compensate both it and JDT, as well as requiring the club to play their home league game against JDT behind closed doors.

MBS president Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin said the council also supports the move by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and the Selangor State Executive Council to launch a crowdfunding campaign to pay of MFL's fine.

"The council also supports the stance of the Selangor state government regarding the MFL decision, as mentioned by Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, which is seen as lacking in empathy and understanding the sentiments (behind Selangor FC's withdrawal from the match)," he said in a statement today.

MBS unanimously views the fine and the decision for Selangor FC to play their home league game against JDT without spectators as unfair.

"The spirit of sportsmanship, which should be upheld by all parties, seems to have faded, and at the same time, this damages the image of local football," Imran said.

He also thanked the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj's statement earlier today, where His Royal Highness expressed displeasure with MFL's decision on Selangor FC.

"As a sign of support, let us stand with Selangor FC and attend the matches at the stadium or continue to show support on social media with the hashtag #MKLK - Merah Kuning Lambang Kebanggaan," Imran said.

The club pulled out of the match against JDT out of concern for its players' safety, after its star winger Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim was left severely injured in an acid attack by unknown assailants at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya on May 5.
