SHAH ALAM, June 10 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has provided RM33.2 million for education scholarships throughout all of last year.

In a Facebook post today, it said that of this number, approximately RM14.15 million was distributed to 3,182 tertiary education institution students within the country.

Similarly, RM5.38 has been channelled to 145 students studying abroad in Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.

Previously, LZS chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail said the board had distributed RM1.15 billion in zakat payments throughout 2023, encompassing over 350,000 individual and organisation recipients.

The distribution to eight recipient categories, including the asnaf, fakir, and the poor, increased by 9.7 per cent, compared to the RM1.05 billion in zakat payments distributed in 2022.

He said the distributions have benefited more than 65,000 asnaf families and have also saved over 3,600 families from hardcore poverty.

To this, LZS called upon the public to fulfil their zakat obligations to assist students in completing their studies.

"Let us come together to assist them in achieving their education perfectly and in comfort," it said.
