SHAH ALAM, June 7 — Dialogue sessions with property owners in areas under the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will be held after the objection period ends next Friday (June 14).
Its newly-appointed Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said that as the assessment tax has not increased for 19 years, MBSA is ready to meet with groups objecting to the new rate.
“Some do not agree with the assessment tax hike, but in reality, MBSA needs strong finances to provide the best services to the public.
“We need it (the tax). The increase does not exceed 25 per cent of the old tax, but we accept that there are objections and will call property owners for a dialogue session,” he said.
Fauzi was speaking to the press during the Gerobok Rezeki MBSA 2024 programme at Masjid Baitul Mahabbah in Section 27 yesterday.
He added that the council received 1,990 objections from property owners between May 9 and Wednesday (June 5).
Previously, MBSA informed property owners in the areas under its purview that they would have to start paying the new assessment tax rate beginning in January next year.
The rate involves all property categories, including residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant land (agricultural). Houses of worship, schools, and non-profit public premises are exempted.
