Dengue cases up in week  to February 3, no deaths reported

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 7 — The number of dengue cases rose to 3,969 in the 5th epidemiological week of January 28 to February 3, 2024 compared with 3,781 cases in the previous week.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, in a statement today, said no fatalities due to dengue fever complications were reported in ME05.

He said the cumulative dengue cases reported so far this year totalled 18,427, compared to 11,127 cases in the corresponding period last year.

“A total of nine deaths due to dengue fever complications have been reported, compared to six cases for the same period in 2023,” he said.

The number of hotspots increased to 180 from 148 in the previous week, with 143 localities in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (20), Negeri Sembilan (seven), Perak (four), Penang (three) and one each in Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak.

On chikungunya surveillance, Dr Muhammad Radzi said one case was recorded in ME05, bringing the cumulative figure so far this year to three cases.

“As for zika surveillance, a total of 210 blood samples were screened and the results were all negative,” he said.
