Focus on reform agenda, not power, Keadilan members reminded

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 25 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Women’s wing delegates are reminded to stay focused on the reformation agenda rather than be driven by a thirst for power.

Its Election Central Election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said being in government is an opportunity for the party to engage more effectively with the people, especially when compared to the challenges faced while in the Opposition bloc.

"In just four years, we will face another election — be it a state election or a general election. Let us concentrate on our primary task in winning the election.

“It us not about craving power but maintaining it to advance our reform agenda," she told the audience of over 400 delegates at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.

Hence, to materialise the government’s agenda and manifesto, Dr Zaliha stressed the need to provide the government an ample time frame of at least two terms.

“We must reform national institutions… No government can fully implement a planned agenda in just one term, it requires at least two terms. Therefore, the fieldwork needs to continue.

“I am so grateful that we are now a government, making it easier to engage with the people.

“Our commitment now is to ensure that our manifesto and agenda are successfully implemented,” she said.

At the same time, to preserve the party’s image, Dr Zaliha also reminded delegates and party members to voice out their dissatisfaction through proper channels, rather than addressing it publicly.
