Klang Valley's land public transport sustainability satisfactory — Audit report

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — The sustainability of land public transport in the Klang Valley is satisfactory concerning its rail and bus infrastructure, the rail services' operation level, increasing passengers, as well as integration and connectivity, according to the 2022 Auditor-General's Report (LKAN).

However, aspects of bus service operation level, mode sharing, and the use of energy-efficient vehicles were less than satisfactory.

"In addition, there are weaknesses in selling unlimited monthly passes which do not reach the target, while the railings, ramps, and embosses facilities at bus stops do not meet the needs of vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities (PwD).

“Furthermore, applications which are not integrated between bus and train companies affect users planning trips using different modes of transport," according to the report tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today.

To improve and strengthen train and bus public transport services, it suggested the Transport Ministry and local authorities work together to study appropriate methods to improve them so users can enjoy inclusive, efficient, and trusted services.

“MOT and the local authorities must also study effective mechanisms to achieve low-carbon mobility initiatives via the use of energy-efficient vehicles and increase the use of public transport services," stated the report.
