SHAH ALAM, Nov 15 — Selangor is set to drive forward its high-tech manufacturing sector, leveraging automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and other fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0) technologies, as part of its vision under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) for 2024
Addressing the state assembly, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said although the state is undergoing a transition towards a more service-based economy, he underscored the continued significance of the manufacturing sector.
Despite the shift, he stressed the importance of modernising manufacturing processes, especially in areas that predominantly rely on mass labour.
“While Selangor has been slowly shifting towards the service sector, recent engagements with stakeholders, investors and economists show that they believe the state's manufacturing sector has not yet fully matured, as it still relies somewhat on mass labour.
“In response to this, there will be an increased focus on high technology within technical and professional programmes.
“This includes collaborations with various institutions to develop a high-value manufacturing sector grounded in IR 4.0 technologies, automation, AI and other similar advanced technologies,” he said today.
He was responding to Lembah Jaya assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, who wanted the Menteri Besar to detail the state’s plans under RS-1 for 2024.
Amirudin added that another area of focus is the promotion of smart industrial parks, which were heavily featured in the latest Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS).
He said Selangor is positioning itself to attract industries to relocate to the state from less stable regions.
