Asean, Germany intensify efforts to strengthen development partnership

JAKARTA, Nov 8 — Asean and Germany have agreed to strengthen collaboration in eight areas of mutual interest, including cybersecurity, energy security and connectivity.

Other areas of collaboration include youth cooperation, culture and people-to-people exchange, science, technology, as well as innovation, according to the ASEAN Secretariat.

The decision was reached during the 7th Asean-Germany Development Partnership Committee meeting held at the ASEAN Headquarters here, on Tuesday.

The meeting also addressed cooperation under the Asean Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and allowed both sides to exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern.

They noted substantive progress made in implementing the Asean-Germany Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) for 2023-2027.

“Nearly 69 per cent of the action lines of the PCA have been or are being addressed since its adoption last year,” the secretariat stated in a statement.

Both sides emphasized robust cooperation in various areas, including counter-terrorism, trade and investment, tourism, food, agriculture, forestry, climate cooperation and sustainable development.

The meeting was co-chaired by Asean’s Political-Security Community deputy secretary-general Michael Tene, and Ambassador of Germany to Asean Ina Lepel.

Members of the committee of permanent representatives to Asean and their respective delegations also attended.
