KL Fire Dept confirms minor explosion at Menara LPP

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPMKL) confirmed a minor explosion occurred at Menara Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang (LPP) near Bukit Tunku today.

A JBPMKL spokesperson said the explosion involved a low-voltage room in Basement One of the building, and they received an emergency call at 2pm before a fire engine and a fire rescue van arrived at the location nine minutes later, with seven members from the Sentul Fire and Rescue Station.

"The commander confirmed a two-foot wide hole resulting from the explosion, with no reported injuries. An underground cable fire caused the explosion.

"All LPP staff have been confirmed safe and were allowed to enter the building at 2.55pm today," the spokesperson told Bernama.

Meanwhile, a Bernama survey at the site found several media practitioners who were supposed to attend a session with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, at the LPP Tower had captured the moments when LPP staff were instructed to evacuate the building, around 2pm.

A fire truck was also seen arriving at the entrance of the building to take initial firefighting measures.

LPP employees and media editors, who were initially set to meet Mohamad, were waiting outside the building for the situation to be controlled and deemed safe before they could re-enter.
