Thai King endorses new Cabinet

BANGKOK, Sept 2 — Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn today endorsed the new Cabinet of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, months after the May 14 General Election.

The endorsement was announced in a Royal Gazette on Saturday.

Thailand's 30th Prime Minister Srettha was also named finance minister, a move to revive the kingdom's economy.

Srettha's cabinet has six Deputy Prime Ministers, namely Phumtham Wechayachai, Somsak Thepsuthin, and Pranpree Bahiddha from Pheu Thai Party.

The other Deputy Prime Ministersare Anutin Charnvirakul from Bhumjaithai Party, outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Prawith Wongsuwan’s younger brother Patcharawat Wongsuwan (PPRP), and UTN party leader Pirapan Salirathavibhaga.

Pheu Thai Party, which led a coalition of 11 parties, will oversee the defence, transport, commerce, public health, digital economy and society, tourism and sports, culture, and foreign ministry portfolios.

Meanwhile, Bhumjaithai Party, the second largest party in the coalition, will oversee the interior, education, labour, higher education, science, research and innovation ministries.

Pro-military Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) will oversee natural resources and environment, and agriculture and cooperatives. The United Thai Nation (UTN) will oversee energy and industry.

Chart Thai Pattana party leader Varawut Silpa-archa has been named social development and human security minister while Prachachat Party secretary-general Pol Col Thawee Sodsong is the new justice minister.

The new cabinet of 33 members is expected to be sworn in before the King and deliver a policy statement at the Parliament.
