SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 – The Unity Government coalition consisting Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) and Barisan Nasional (BN) has secured a simple majority of 34 seats in the State Legislative Assembly, according to official results tallied by the Election Commission (EC) last night.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) won the remaining 22 constituencies, including hot seats like Hulu Kelang, Taman Medan, and Gombak Setia.

In Hulu Kelang, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali defeated Harapan candidate Juwairiya Zulkifli by a majority of 1,617 to make a return to the state assembly.

Afif Bahardin and Hilman Idham, meanwhile, respectively won the two other seats with a meagre majority of 30 and 58.

In a press conference just past midnight, Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Unity Government coalition will wait for confirmation from the office of the state ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, on officially forming the government.

It is understood that His Royal Highness is currently out of the country.

“The process is now for us to wait for the EC to ratify the seats that we have won, which will then be submitted to the state ruler's office," Amirudin said.

"The palace will then send an official correspondence to the state Unity Government chairman or the prime minister himself. That is the procedure, so we will wait."

The current composition of the state assembly among the Unity Government parties are as follows: DAP (15 seats), Keadilan (12), Amanah (five) and Umno (two).
