KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — The Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance has secured Negeri Sembilan with a two-thirds majority win in the state election yesterday.
Based on data released by the Election Commission (EC) at 10.33pm, Harapan-BN has so far won 24 of the 36 seats at stake, in turn paving the way to form a much stronger state government.
Perikatan Nasional (PN) has only managed three seats so far.
The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on July 1.
During the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018, Harapan won 20 seats and BN, who was then contesting as its rivals, took 20.
Similarly, in Penang, Harapan will continue to govern after obtaining a majority of over 50 per cent in the state polls.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh told a media conference yesterday night that Harapan had won 21 out of the 40 State Legislative Assembly seats contested as of 10.34pm.
As of 4pm earlier, Penang had recorded a 67 per cent voter turnout.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow won the Padang Kota seat for the fourth consecutive time after obtaining a majority of 7,116 votes.
It was reported that Chow, who is also the Batu Kawan MP, would be named as Chief Minister candidate if Harapan retains power in Penang.
During GE14, Harapan won 37 out of the 40 state seats to form the state government.
