HULU LANGAT, Aug 10 — Approximately 1,000 more votes could be all it takes for the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (Harapan-BN) Unity pact to clinch victory in Semenyih in the coming state election.

Selangor Harapan chairman Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said based on current observation, BN's candidate Wan Zulaikha Anua is close to securing a win in the constituency.

He also did not discount the possibility of a landslide victory in favour of the Harapan-BN alliance.

"If we can find 1,000 votes, it's not impossible for BN to send a female representative (to the state legislative assembly).

"But if possible, look for another 2,000 votes, and we will deliver Semenyih and form a strong government," he said during a Kita Selangor election programme in Beranang, here, last night.

However, Amirudin stopped short of stating how many votes Wan Zulaikha is predicted to garner on polling day.

"Wan Zulaikha said earlier that we have not yet risen above water level (to secure victory), but we are just an inch away.

"We must make sure everyone comes out to vote. Be it the Malays, Chinese or Indians, choose the Unity (government). The people of Semenyih must pick Wan Zulaikha," he added.

Amirudin, who is Selangor menteri besar, also said he foresees the Harapan-BN alliance securing a two-thirds majority in the August 12 election, allowing them to form the new state government.

In the 2019 by-election in Semenyih, BN's Zakaria Hanafi secured 19,780 votes to win the seat by a majority of 1,914. At the time, BN had the support of Islamist party PAS.

PH's candidate Muhammad Aiman Zainali came in second with 17,866 votes, followed by PSM's Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul (847) and independent Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul (725).

In the coming election, Wan Zulaikha will take on Nushi Mahfodz from PAS.
