Eight S. Korean carmakers to recall 14,000 vehicles over defects

SEOUL, Aug 9 — Eight domestic and foreign carmakers in South Korea will voluntarily recall some 14,000 vehicles over manufacturing defects, Xinhua quoted the transport ministry as saying on Wednesday.

Kia Corp will recall 8,394 units of the EV9 for software design errors in the rear-wheel drive’s motor control system, according to the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry.

Mercedes-Benz South Korea will recall 2,695 units of the E300e 4MATIC for wiring damage to the drive motor control system, 559 units of four models, including the EQS 450+, for non-compliance with safety standards in the high-power electric system, and 82 units of two other models for bolt-poor tightening.

Jaguar Land Rover South Korea will recall 1,316 vehicles of four models for faulty rear and braking lamps, while Volkswagen Group South Korea has made economic compensation to 338 owners of the ID.4 over excessive fuel consumption issues.

GM South Korea and GM Asia Pacific regional headquarters will recall 271 vehicles of the Traverse and 21 units of two models, including the Cadillac XT5, for poor manufacturing in its transmission internal parts.

Tesla South Korea will recall 176 units of two models, including the Model S, for poor manufacturing in its front cameras, as well as 97 units of two models, including the Model X, to fix defective front-seat belts.

Toyota Motors South Korea will recall 108 units of the Lexus NX450h+ for circuit design errors in its voltage converter.

Vehicle owners can visit repair and service centres to replace the faulty parts free of charge.
