PETALING JAYA — Entering the second round of the election campaign in the six states, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim advised all contesting parties, including the opposition, to campaign prudently and not insult the opponents.
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said they should use the campaign election as a platform to explain current issues to the people.
"In politics, you can be firm, but don't swear. I heard in a ceramah (political talk\) recently words like "Anwar is treacherous, Anwar is an idiot” said… My advice is, let's not be too arrogant.
"The opposition want to criticise, it's alright...What I did may not be right all the time, (one) can criticise and give views, but don’t insult, Campaign well, (there is) no need to curse and insult because in the end, we are friends and family too.” he said at the Unity Public Talk at Dataran Anak Muda here tonight.
Anwar also refuted claims that he and the Unity Government are arrogant and tyrannical, even insisting that as Prime Minister, he along with the Cabinet always wants to be a just leader, look after the welfare of the people and reject the practice of corruption.
"Now he calls us tyrants because he was brought to court for corruption, not my decision. I was in and out of prison and spent almost 11 years in prison.
Being the Prime Minister is not my job to be a tyrant...why did God test me so badly, it's not just me, Wan Azizah (Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail), my children, family and friends are also facing it."
At the same time, the Prime Minister said the Unity Government has never denied the rights of all races in this country.
"I am a Muslim, my religion does not teach me to insult people because of the colour of their skin or their race. If something is right, good for the people, we will support it ... allocations for the Islamic agenda were increased, to raise the dignity of the Malays, we increased the allocations.
DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke does not object to all this, but supports because he understands the needs of the countr."
