Kedahans say Anwar doesn’t sideline opposition-led states

SUNGAI PETANI, Aug 4 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s success in attracting Infineon Technologies AG's stake in Kulim, Kedah, proves he is unbiased against opposition-led states, said locals.

Kedah native Aliff Naif Mohd Fizam, 25, said the development shows an increase in foreign investor confidence in the prime minister’s administration.

“That is a very good thing; it shows international investors are confident in Malaysia’s capacity to develop their businesses and will certainly open job opportunities for young people, especially in Kedah.

“Even though Kedah’s leaders are quite strong in opposing the central government, the prime minister still brings investments into the state, showing his ability to attract high-value investments to Malaysia,” the chief coordinator of the Social Democratic Organisation (DEMUDA) told Bernama.

Peninsular Malay Students Association’s Kedah chapter chairman Ahmad Qusyairi Ahmad Zaini said the investment will benefit local youth in terms of job opportunities and stimulate economic activities in Kulim.

“I am confident more Kedahans with technical and vocational skills can be absorbed into the manufacturing sector with decent salaries without having to migrate, and be able to improve their economy and standard of living,” he said.

German chipmaker Infineon Technologies said it will invest up to €5 billion over the next five years to build the world’s largest 200-millimetre silicon carbide power fabrication plant in Kulim.
