GOMBAK, July 28 — The Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership's radio silence over the actions of its election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is a clear sign of its failure to uphold the royal institution, said Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
To this, he called upon the people to reject PN in the upcoming state election, given their irreverence towards the monarchy.
"When our Sultan is being ridiculed, the people of Selangor must rise and reject PN for its impertinence and ill-manners towards His Royal Highness," he said during the Jelajah Malaysia Madani roadshow for the Rawang state constituency, yesterday evening.
Amirudin, who is also the Menteri Besar, described PN leaders as undergoing a sort of denial syndrome while using politics as their capital, due to the excellent achievements of the Harapan-led state government.
Before this, former menteri besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali attempted to refute Harapan's claim that Selangor's reserves were rising during Amirudin's administration.
"They (PN) became aggressive and tried to influence the people by claiming the government has failed and is incapable. Azmin said Selangor has regressed, but I responded with numbers, stating that in 2022 investments reached RM60 billion, whereas it was far less during his (Azmin's) time as MB.
"In turn, he called me arrogant and conceited, despite our answers having a factual basis. They should not think that everyone can be deceived and manipulated," Amirudin said.
On June 27, the Department of Statistics Malaysia released data which revealed Selangor's Gross Domestic Product contribution increased to 25.5 per cent in 2022, surpassing the previous year's contribution of 24.8 perc ent.
The state's economic growth also rose by 11.9 per cent, exceeding the national growth rate of 8.7 per cent last year.
In the five years Amirudin has helmed the state government, Selangor has seen economic growth with increased state revenues, reserves, household income, and a controlled unemployment rate.
