GOMBAK, June 12 — Seat distribution between Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Selangor state election has neared completion, according to Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Selangor Harapan chairman noted that the two coalitions have concluded negotiations for 53 of the 56 seats, which account for 95 per cent, as the state gears for an election within the next couple of months.
"I feel this is a huge development within the two months of negotiations," he told reporters after attending the launching ceremony of the state level National Youth Day celebration at the International Islamic University Malaysia's cultural centre, here, yesterday.
However, Amirudin, who is Selangor menteri besar, said he could only provide further updates on the matter later this week, granted he is allowed to make the announcement.
Amirudin pointed out that Harapan and BN have yet to finalise the three remaining seats due to overlapping claims between the two entities.
"What is happening is Harapan and BN are resolving this internally among themselves, before bringing it to the negotiation table.
"Our goal is to have straight fights (in all seats), and we will attempt to collect and combine our respective strengths and advantages to ensure the victory of this united group.
"(Negotiations at the state level) have been completed and these (three seats) will be discussed at the federal level. So, for the (53) completed seats, we can already start our ground works and mobilise our machinery."
Six states are scheduled to hold their elections in the next couple of months, namely Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
