SABAK BERNAM, June 10 — A total of 73 out of 104 public libraries in Selangor have been completely upgraded, said the Selangor Public Library Corporation's (PPAS) director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad.

In addition to this, eight more library upgrading projects are set to be carried out throughout this year.

"We are very thankful for Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari's continuous support, in his capacity as PPAS chairman, who has consistently shown special attention and strong support from the beginning.

"The support from government leaders is crucial when it comes to improving PPAS' infrastructure and services, which benefits all segments of society.

"Via the various measures taken to enhance visitors' comfort, we hope to encourage a reading culture among the community," she said.

Mastura was speaking at the launching ceremony for the rebranding of Perpustakaan Awam Selangor Daerah Sabak Bernam, which Amirudin officiated yesterday.

She added the project to upgrade the library in Sabak Bernam encompassed a building area of 26,775 square feet, at a cost of RM3.3 million.

"The upgrade works also involved a solar project in collaboration with Worldwide Holdings Bhd.

"Besides the library in Sabak Bernam, three more (solar) projects are currently being implemented, involving the public libraries in Gombak, Hulu Selangor, and Kuala Langat," Mastura said.
