SHAH ALAM, May 19 — The state government is ready to offer additional pneumococcal vaccine shots if there is a demand from prospective Hajj pilgrims, said state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

Currently, 2,000 doses have been prepared, with over 1,300 doses already administered during the Hajj course held at Masjid Negeri earlier this month.

"We initially provided 1,500 doses, but due to high demand, we added another 500. Pilgrims can obtain the vaccine at the Selcare clinic at Universiti Selangor.

"If there is further demand, we are prepared to increase the number of doses to facilitate the pilgrims," she told SelangorKini.

On May 6, Dr Mariah said the objective of administering vaccines to Hajj pilgrims, especially the elderly, is to protect them from lung infections.

Pre-registration can be done through the Safe Entry Steps (SELangkah) app starting May 6, or by contacting the hotline at 1-800-22-6600 for further information.
