Aidilfitri: JPJ to focus more on special motorcycle op

KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will focus more on the Special Motorcycle Operation nationwide during the Aidilfitri festive period to reduce the rate of fatal crashes involving two-wheelers.

JPJ deputy director (planning and operations) Aedy Fadly Ramly said based on the statistics of Op Selamat 2019, 69 per cent of fatal crashes involved motorcyclists and pillion riders, while it was 65 per cent for Op Selamat 2022.

He said the trend of fatal accidents involving motorcycles was of great concern to the government.

"So, we will focus on this Special Motorcycle Op throughout the country and JPJ has mobilised enforcement personnel nationwide, where we will focus on motorcycle inspections throughout the campaign this festive season.

"Among the types of offences that the JPJ will focus on are those related to driver’s licence, vehicle licence and other technical offences such as motorcycle modification," he said after inspecting the implementation of the operation by the Kuala Lumpur JPJ at the Sentul Pasar Toll Plaza here, last night.

In the operation carried out with the National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada), the Immigration Department and the police, a total of 409 notices were issued and 18 motorcycles were seized.

In addition, a total of 15 foreigners were detained by the Immigration Department for not having valid documents while three individuals were detained by Nada for testing positive for drugs.
