GOMBAK, April 10 — Muslims recipients of the Selangor free insurance scheme, Skim Insurans Am Selangor (Insan), will be switched to a syariah-compliant plan beginning May, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
The Menteri Besar said that details of the changes would soon be announced.
“The state government has decided that the switch (between the plans) would be implemented beginning May and I will announce the details soon.
“For Muslims (recipients), we will switch (to an Islamic policy) while the non-Muslims will remain with the conventional plan. The change will be made automatically once the details are sorted out,” he said when met after handing over Aidilfitri contributions for the Gombak Setia state constituency at Dewan Beringin Taman Seri Gombak, here yesterday.
Earlier, Amirudin, who is also the Gombak MP, had presented the contributions to the
Hulu Kelang state constituency at Dewan Serbaguna Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) AU2.
On March 16, state executive councillor for industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim told the Selangor State Legislative Assembly that a syariah-compliant version of the free insurance scheme will be offered to six million eligible recipients in the state.
Insan is a general insurance coverage implemented by the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, to individuals aged from 30 days to 80 years.
To qualify for the scheme, the recipient must either be born in Selangor or be a voter in the state. The applicant may apply for the scheme using their MyKad or MyKid number or their registered address in Selangor.
With a total protection value of RM60 billion, the scheme is expected to benefit six million people by providing coverage of RM10,000 for each recipient.
The scheme is open for registration until September 30, 2023, and the insurance coverage period is for 12 months from the date of registration and activation of the policy.
