SHAH ALAM, April 8 — The state contingent has begun its early training and preparations for the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Sarawak next year.
State executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the Selangor State Sports Council (MSN) will redouble its efforts in attempting to reach the top three positions.
"Presently, we have already started training as soon as the 20th Sukma ended last year. One of the steps taken is to empower MSN's Sports Science unit.
"The unit is the responsibility of the Selangor MSN assistant director, who specialises in monitoring and maintaining the athletes' performance," he said.
Mohd Khairuddin was speaking at the 20th Selangor Sukma contingent's victory incentives ceremony yesterday, held at Dewan Raja Muda Musa in the Selangor Youth and Culture Complex. Selangor MSN executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi was also in attendance.
He added the Sports Science unit will re-evaluate athletes' performance, and implement various improvements in the period leading up to the games.
Among the sports that could potentially win gold for Selangor include swimming events, athletics, karate, and shooting.
"If properly implemented in the right order, I am confident we can reach our target of being in the top three places. It is quite impossible," Mohd Khairuddin said.
During the 20th Sukma last year, Selangor finished fourth by bringing home 32 gold, 54 silver, and 45 bronze medals.
