Over 180 evacuated in Nabawan due to floods

KOTA KINABALU, April 1 — A total of 187 people from 51 families have been evacuated due to floods in Nabawan following heavy rain since yesterday.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said in a statement today that they have moved to the relief centre at SIB Salarom Baru Church at 12.30am.

Nabawan is a small town located in the interior division of Sabah, about 195 kilometres south of Kota Kinabalu.

Meanwhile, the Public Works Department said that only one road, Jalan Pamuntarian-Kabu Baru in Nabawan, is impassable after being inundated by floods and there is no alternative road that can be used for the time being.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning forecasting thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in the West Coast area of the state, especially Kota Belud and Kudat until 9am.
