Three ministries collaborate in open payment system — Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — Three ministries will work together to implement the open payment system on all highways in the country, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

He said the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will hold engagement sessions with the Works Ministry (KKR) and Transport Ministry (MOT) to expand the open payment system to the North-South Expressway as a start.

"I was informed that many (industry) players are ready to offer this system, so highway users can choose the system they want (in the future).

"This engagement session (between the three ministries) is ongoing, especially with the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) so that all highways will use the open system," Salahuddin told a press conference after launching Jualan Rahmah Hari Raya 99 Speedmart, earlier today.

On Tuesday (March 21), Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that motorists would be allowed to pay toll using credit or debit cards on five highways by September.

The highways are the Sungai Besi Expressway, New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), and Penang Bridge.

Meanwhile, Salahuddin said the Jualan Rahmah Hari Raya campaign under the Payung Rahmah initiative would run for a month starting today until April 22 at 2,300 99 Speedmart branches nationwide.

The sale offers 150 various basic goods up to 40 per cent discount, he added.
