Sultan of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri visit Royal Selangor

SHAH ALAM, March 5 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj visits the gallery and production factory of Royal Selangor, famous for its pewter products, in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, recently.

His Royal Highness was accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who is visiting Royal Selangor for the first time.

Both were taken on a tour of the museum and pewter factory at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre by its chairman, Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon.

“Both Royal Highnesses tried their hands in soldering, knocking and carving pewter bowls in the School of Hard Knocks,” said the statement on Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook.

Previously, Royal Selangor was known as Selangor Pewter, a small craft shop established in 1885.

In 1992, with the consent of the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, the name was changed to Royal Selangor.

The company entered the export market in the 1970s by penetrating foreign markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, before expanding to Europe and Japan.

The statement said it offers more than a thousand types of crockery and assorted souvenirs including traditional kole, tea sets, picture frames and table accessories.

Royal Selangor is also available in Harrods and John Lewis department stores in the United Kingdom as well as Wako and Mitsukoshi in Japan.

Among the factors of Royal Selangor’s success in the souvenir and tableware market is its commitment to innovative design and excellent craftsmanship.
