KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — Malaysia and Egypt are committed to strengthening ties and bilateral cooperation besides exploring potential partnerships in new industries, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said that in a discussion via video call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi yesterday, both countries emphasised their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and collaboration in various fields, including education, trade and tourism.

“We also explored potential partnerships in new industries like smart manufacturing and digital economy as well as discussed global issues of interest, including food security, energy crisis, Islamophobia and the struggle of the Palestinian people.

“Our discussions also reflected the strong economic ties between Egypt and Malaysia. Egypt is one of Malaysia’s biggest trade partners and one of the biggest Malaysian palm oil importers in the African region,” he tweeted.
