PETALING JAYA, Jan 17 — Seven faded mural paintings in SS2 commercial areas had undergone restoration by muralist Silly Jellie.

Silly, better known as Ellie, took three months from October to December last year, to restore the paintings and liven up the area.

Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said the restoration process was initiated after Ellie reached out to her and expressed the intent to restore the paintings.

Lim said the restoration efforts received RM19,500 in funds from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

“In June last year, Silly contacted me and told me of her intention to restore the murals at SS2. We decided to support her wish together with the MBPJ Zone 8 council members and SS2 Selatan Residents’ Association,” she said when met here today.

Lim added that Ellie was one of the winners in the ‘Bestnya Malaysiaku’ wall mural competition organised by Damansara Utama state assemblyman Yeo Bee Yin and MBPJ in 2015.

She said Ellie was given the opportunity to restore six other murals since the original muralist was unable to do so due to other commitments.

“She took over two months to complete all seven murals, and we thank her for her high spirits and dedication in completing the restoration project,” Lim said.

Meanwhile, the assemblyman also urged SS2 traders with murals on their premises to contact her office for the restoration process.

Lim said she will help to expedite the restoration process in collaboration with other related parties to ensure the area is well-preserved.

“Traders, especially those on the end lot who have mural paintings on their wall, may contact us to discuss further details on the restoration process with the muralist,” she said.
